Hi All,

Thought I would mention, You know how MTX may cause coughs and wheezing, well I am asthmatic and during the last 3 years I developed a persistent cough and rough throat and breathlessness which was most annoying and sounded awful. Everyone used to go on at me about it, and talking to the doctor was no better as there was nothing to see. Then I became aware drinking Robinson's low sugar diluting squash was making it worse. There is something in it which didn't agree with me, so I stopped drinking it altogether and drank pure fruit juice diluted with water instead. I have not had that cough or rough throat since. It may have been something in the ingredients affecting something in the medicines I don't know, but I have no problems now. If others are on MTX and have problems like this may be worth looking at things they are drinking / eating too. Lorna Smile

hi Lorna,

thanks for the info,

although i am sure my cough is caused by my sore throat ( as i also have that coldy feeling ) as i have a GP appointment on Friday it was one of the things i was going to mention to him.

i don't drink fruit juices at all but i do drink 2 litres of water a day, i started this when i went on my weight loss journey with a Clinic and i don't feel right if i don't have it now.

all information gratefully received though,

hello Lorna,

What an interesting fact. Sounds unbelievable doesn;t it. I have had a cough for over a
month now but when I saw my GP on Monday he said it was probably the BP tablet which
is Ramapril. Said he wants to see how things go over the next few weeks otherwise I
will need to change tablets

Hi Lorna.
It was intersting to hear of your experiences. I started on mtx earlier this year. I'm asthmatic- although only mild and on a seretide 50 inhaler, at the lowest dosage- and I noticed that this summer I was getting a bit more 'chesty'. I mentioned this when I had my review at the asthma clinic. The nurse said that the mtx could be affecting the efficency of the inhaler, and making me more sensitive to pollen, so advised me to increase the dosage of my inhaler. This seems to have worked for me.
funny about the squash. Years before I developed asthma and RA I found that certain orange squashes did the same to me. It must be something in them.

Wishing you well
